Sown ("we," "our," or "us") operates the Sown mobile application. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and share your information when you use our app.

1. Information We Collect

Information you provide:

• Account information: Name, email address (via sign-up with email, Apple, or Google)
• Location data: ZIP code, city/state, and approximate coordinates (used to determine your USDA hardiness zone, frost dates, and local weather)
• Garden data: Plant inventory, garden details, lawn information, watering schedules, and activity logs
• Photos: Plant photos you take or upload for identification and health analysis
• Chat messages: Conversations with the AI assistant
• Preferences: Notification settings, gardening experience level, and goals

Information collected automatically:

• Device information: Device type, operating system, app version
• Usage data: Features used, screens viewed, session duration (via PostHog analytics)
• Crash reports: Error logs and stack traces (via Sentry)
• Push notification tokens: For delivering daily briefings and alerts (via Expo Push Service)

2. How We Use Your Information

• Personalized gardening advice: Your location, plants, and garden data are used to generate tailored recommendations
• Weather-based guidance: Your location is used to fetch local weather forecasts and frost date information
• AI analysis: Photos and chat messages are processed by our AI to identify plants, diagnose issues, and provide care instructions
• Daily briefings: Your garden data and local weather are used to generate personalized daily updates
• Notifications: Push tokens are used to deliver briefings, frost alerts, and watering reminders
• App improvement: Anonymized usage data helps us improve the app experience

3. AI Data Processing

Sown uses Anthropic's Claude API to power its AI features, including chat responses, plant identification, health analysis, and daily briefings. When you use these features:

• Your garden data, chat messages, and photos are sent to Anthropic's servers for processing
• Anthropic processes this data to generate responses and does not use it to train their models
• We do not sell your data to any third party, including Anthropic
• AI-generated advice is for informational purposes only and should not be relied upon as professional horticultural guidance

4. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate Sown:

• Anthropic (Claude API): AI processing for chat, photo analysis, and briefings
• Supabase: Database hosting, user authentication, and data storage
• Cloudflare R2: Photo storage
• RevenueCat: Subscription and billing management
• Sentry: Error tracking and crash reporting
• PostHog: Privacy-focused product analytics
• Expo Push Service: Push notification delivery
• Open-Meteo: Weather forecast data (no personal data sent — only coordinates)

Each of these services has its own privacy policy governing its data handling practices.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. We share data only as described in Sections 3 and 4 above — solely to provide the service.

6. Data Retention

• Your account data is retained for as long as your account is active
• Photos are stored in Cloudflare R2 for as long as your account is active
• Chat history is retained to provide conversation context
• If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Correct inaccurate information
• Delete your account and associated data
• Export your garden data

8. Data Security

We use industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS), server-side authentication token verification, and Row-Level Security on all database tables to ensure users can only access their own data.

9. Children's Privacy

Sown is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected such information, we will delete it promptly.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy in the app or on our website. Continued use of Sown after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
